Grow your own...

You can grow your own successful music store.  Just add water.
In looking around at businesses that we love, they all have a few things in common...

1.  They have a network of teachers.
2.  The in-store displays draw attention.
3.  They offer instrument repairs.
4.  They offer promotions regularly.
5.  They offer discounts to teachers and students.
6.  They are actively involved in their community.
7.  They offer multiple brands of multiple products.
8.  They offer expert advice in every aspect.

Do you have any suggestions on things that you do that work? We'd love to hear them!

how to sell more music-#2

making pop culture work for you...

We all know that Tuesday is the day for new music, be it MP3 downloads or CDs.  It's also generally the release date for movies, etc.

Here's a way to make that beneficial for you-

*Feature titles by the selected artist.
*Feature movie titles.
*Play the soundtrack or new album in your store.  Often songs can be found for free online at places like aolradio, yahoo radio, pandora, etc.
*Offer special discounts on everything by that artist-for example-discount everything by Taylor Swift.
*Offer a giveaway/raffle of the new album, movie, etc. with purchase.
*Feature possible products that your featured artist uses-ie: picks, straps, etc.
*Feature different artists every week.  Different is good, it makes your customers WANT to come in next week-just to see who it is.

Tune in next week-

Printed Music Tip o' the Week-November 2nd

Holiday Spruce Up

Alrighty then, it's time to admit it.  The holidays are coming.  Yikes!  How to sell more of that great Holiday print music that you have?

Here are some suggestions:

* Put up decorations!
* Strategically place books with gift bows around the store
* Burn a seasonally scented candle.   (pine, cinnamon, vanilla, peppermint...)
* Start playing holiday music (you can wait a couple weeks for that one...)
* Include Free Gift Wrapping.
* Put up a tree with music themed ornaments (which can be purchased from your favorite supplier...aka-the one where the mavens are employed).  Place print music underneath the tree.
* Make your theme this year- "Give the Gift of Music".
* Make sure you are stocking best sellers.  Ask your supplier for suggestions
* Have best selling METHODS on hand for people who are purchasing instruments.

Sell lots, have fun-
the mavens
